All For One

Brand development for a political group supporting the passage of the Iowa City General Obligation (G.O.) Bond in fall 2017. Based on the goals of bringing unity and positivity to what would go on to be a contentious local debate, Meld provided the strategy for the naming of the group, One Community. One Bond.—which came to serve as the campaign tagline—and campaign, All For One. From there, I developed two logo directions, ultimately resulting in a logo that struck the balance between playful and approachable.

The campaign resulted in the G.O. Bond passing with 65% of the vote in favor and a record-shattering turnout of 16,700 voters, double the previous record turnout for school elections. Seeing my work on yard signs and t-shirts throughout my city, donning an All For One sticker as I cast my vote on election day, and knowing that I had played a small part in bettering the future for kids in my community was an exceptional moment of pride in my career.

The wordmark is a combination of Filson Soft and hand lettering. An earlier version of the mark incorporated personification into the letterforms, and I think a hint of that carries through in its final form.

The primary divide in our district lies between rival high schools, City and West. It was important when creating the brand to choose a color that showed no favoritism between the two, or for the newly established Liberty High School, as each school in the district stood to make equal gain. With the addition of an orange and yellow, each school—from K through 12—and its interests could easily be represented in the All For One brand.
