Kool A.D. 19/63

One of my favorite course projects from my time at The University of Iowa: the music campaign project. I created a special edition re-release of indie rapper Kool A.D.’s 19 and 63 mixtapes as well as a tour poster and backstage pass for a Summer 2013 tour (opening for Run the Jewels). The packaging and poster sample motifs from Kool A.D.’s visual art—a pyramid, often depicted far on the horizon, and Sharpie markers as a medium.

The upper portion of the pyramid case contains a secret bonus sticker. A trap door opens when you pull out the blue box and the sticker drops out from above.

The lyric booklet, Z-fold CD sleeve, and CDs all feature a pattern made from deconstructed elements of the pyramid, with the occasional Sharpie-scribbled fill of yellow or blue.
